Neemrana Fort

We were supposed to fly from Udaipur to Jaipur where Kimi would pick us up and we would drive to Neemrana.  There is a hotel in an old fort there that several people told us was worth the stay.  But Indian Airlines decided that they would cancel the flight - Alexander's theory was that the pilot had decided to party at New Year's and was not up for an early morning flight.  They did this less than 24 hours before the flight - we have to take them again tomorrow to Chennai and again to Mumbai next week so we are keeping our fingers crossed.  Kimi was already 100 kilometres from Udaipur and had to come back for us so we could drive to Neemrana - 10 hours to drive about 500 kilometres.  Impossible you say? In India, we actually did well.  We figured our average speed was about 80km per hour on the equivalent of a 400 series highway and we did not bump into - pick one -- camels, cows, water buffalo, cars/trucks driving westbound on an eastbound lane, construction, fruit/veg vendors, autorickshaws, or pedestrians.

We were wondering why we wanted to get to Neemrana in the first place but I have to say, the fort was gorgeous and even though it was a short time, it was very relaxing.  That's Christina dancing a traditional Rajistani dance - well sort of.

Our India

Our India
Cameron, Chris and Heather will travel to Varanasi, in Uttar Pradesh, during the 3 days before Alex arrives. We meet Alex and then set out from Delhi in the north. We travel mainly in Rajasthan, in what is called the Golden Triangle. We will visit the Taj Mahal in Agra, Jodhpur, Jaipur, often called the Pink City, Udaipur with a Palace that sits in the middle of a lake, and Pushkar, which every year has a big camel fair. Then Alex and Chris return home to university. Heather and Cameron continue and tour through parts of the south, starting in Chennai and Madurai, both in Tamil Nadu. We drive through the Western Ghats arriving in Cochin and the backwaters of Kerala. Mumbai ends our trip and home to Canada.
